So You Want to Buy Traditional Kitchen Scales
There is nothing quite like traditional
kitchen scales, they are just classic. The black painted cast iron base, and
the brass tear shaped pan for scooping and pouring, are just a childhood memory in an age of
digitalisation.
These shiny plastic monstrosities which
may weigh down to the fourth decimal point should really have no place in the kitchen. Cooking should remain an
art and not a science, and weighing items to this degree is just plain silly.
The delights of the traditional kitchen
scales are not only how good they look on a worktop, but also how simple they are to
use. Using
weights from less than an ounce to several pounds and these weights come in brass further adding to the
Victorian appearance of the traditional kitchen scales.
What you do is to place the weight you
want on one side, and then gradually add, say flour to the pan until the scales go into balance is actually
easier than using a digital kitchen scale. It is not only easier, but a lot more satisfying as
well.
Digital kitchen scales may be all the
rage, but batteries can run out, they are so dainty they would be destroyed if you were to drop them or spill
hot liquid onto them. On the other hand, traditional kitchen scales
themselves are heavy being made of cast iron, that you won’t readily pick them up to drop them, and you can’t
cause them any harm by dropping boiling liquids onto them. In short they are too simple to damage, so what you
are talking about is potentially a lifetime of use.
By the way, you can get the weights in
grams instead of ounces if that is what you understand better.
Of course at around $50 to buy
traditional kitchen scales, they are a bargain.
Join the traditional revolution that is
sweeping our kitchens and buy traditional kitchen scales.
